Situated in the Southern of the Golf of Thailand, amidst a scattering of islands strewn across a gulf of azure waters and sparkling white sand beaches, lies Koh Phangan, an island that has struck a perfect balance with nature and society. Though Phangan (‘Koh’ simply means island in Thai) receives its fair share of tourists it hasn’t seen anywhere near the same development as its distant cousin Koh Samui which, only a 20-minute boat ride away, has developed into something of a tourist trap and has lost much of the island charm that once attracted the tourists, who now prefer Phangan.

Koh Phangan is well-known for the Full Moon Party. Travelers come to the island in monthly droves in their fluorescent vests and stay in the over-populated Haad Rin for the nights before, during, and after the party. But what you may not know is that there’s so much more to this island than the Full Moon party. The north west has some of the most beautiful beaches you’ve ever seen. The yoga camps attract beginner yogis and advanced from all over the world, entranced by the serene, spiritual atmosphere on the island. The food is fresh, the people are friendly and there isn’t a Starbucks or McDonald’s in sight. Koh Phangan is truly the definition of a paradise island.
